AGM

Next month on the 30th of November will be the AGM.

This is your opportunity to have your say.

This is also the time when all the officers of the Branch are re-elected or new officers are elected should anybody wish to stand for any of the positions or anybody wishes to stand down.

If anybody wishes to stand for any of the positions you must inform me in writing two weeks before the AGM. The incumbent officers need not contact me unless you intend to stand down.

Please be aware that the monthly meeting will take place immediately after the AGM and that there will be some light refreshments for the meeting.

If there are any Proposals concerning the Branch could you please let me have the written proposal before the AGM.

It will be good to see as many of you as possible especially those who have not managed to make a meeting for a while.

I have some diaries for sale and there will be a raffle (which donations are gratefully received) at the end of the meeting with it being drawn during the quiz at the club to which you are all invited.

The BBQ was a great success thanks to all who attended and made this happen

Remembrance Parades/ Services

Blyth We have been sent a letter from the Blyth and Wansbeck Branch. Text as follows:-

Dear Secretary,

While it is appreciated that on the 5th. November 06, when we have our Annual Blyth Memorial Service, other Branches will probably have similar commitments. However, should any of your members be in the vicinity of Blyth on that day, we would greatly appreciate them joining us for the Service, and the Social gathering thereafter.

Assembly is from 1030 a.m. onwards with the Service commencing at 11 a.m. on the Sunday morning of the 5th. November, at St. Mary's Church, adjacent to the Market Square. The Service will conclude with the laying of wreathes at the "Tiptoe Anchor", situated at the Church entrance.

After the ceremony there will be refreshments at the nearby Social Club, where acquaintances will have the opportunity to revive memories of the past.

Please pass on our cordial greetings to all the Members of your Branch..

If you want to go let me know or just turn up.

There are also the usual parades around the area on the 12th of November but the festival of remembrance at St Georges Hall is on the 5th of November.

From the National Secretary

The National secretary has sent his own news letter round and is on his “soap box” (his words) about lack of feed back ( I can relate to that) and the lack of members at the National conference.

He has also pointed out the rules on wearing dolphins and they are as follows:-

At the 1982 Submarine Annual Reunion Dinner the then flag Officer, Submarines authorised the wearing of full size uniform Submarine Dolphins by members of the Submarine Old Comrades Association. He ruled that they should be worn over the left breast pocket of a jacket or blazer, and above medals, when worn. That is, exactly as worn by serving personnel in uniform. To pre-empt any question as to "where do I wear them if lam not wearing a jacket or blazer? - the answer is that in common with uniformed personnel, you do not!!"

So if anybody says anything about dolphins you can quote this

I have received this letter if you want any more info let me know ASAP

Dear Mr. Waterworth

I'm writing to on behalf of the Support Our Soldiers Campaign to ask if we could possibly count on your help with our Christmas Parcel Campaign.

Each year since 2003 we have sent out Christmas parcels to the troops serving in Iraq. We're now embarking on our appeal for 2006 and hope to send out 500 parcels as we have done previously. This year they will also be sent to the lads and lassies serving in Afghanistan who have had a particularly difficult time.

The parcels mean a great deal to the recipients, not necessarily for the contents but because they represent the support and goodwill of the public.

More information about the parcel contents is shown on the enclosed sheets together with some pictures of the parcels being delivered by 'Santa' last year.

I wondered if you might be good enough to ask your members if they were prepared to gather a few items together for inclusion. We don't expect huge amounts, but every packet of shortbread, pack of nuts or other item donated makes a difference. We also encourage people to put in a little note or card expressing their best wishes.

Please feel free to give me a call on 07771 533034 if you'd like any further information.

If you could let me know if you are intending to participate that would be much appreciated. It is a huge task putting the parcels together so it's nice to know when there is help at hand!

As you can see there is no close date so I presume ASAP I have a list of what is allowed/wanted and also prohibited. The parcel should only be about £5 in cost and mainly bits and pieces so it is no great hardship.

Remember I still need your stories and dits for the news letters when I haven’t got anything to write.

Q. Why is a woman like a hurricane?

A. When they come they are wet and wild and when they go they take your house and car.
